GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Six Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies were placed on paid leave as state authorities investigate a deadly deputy-involved shooting in Gainesville.
Sheriff’s office officials say Ali Bayhan, a Turkish national, was shot and killed as authorities attempted to serve a warrant for the charge of making terroristic threats.
Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies first became aware of Bayhan on Wednesday when a Baker Act order was issued based on information provided by his family.
Based on concerns about his mental health status and the likelihood of being armed, deputies decided to wait until the next day to take him into custody.
