As discussions surrounding a potential 2026 transportation sales tax continue, residents in rural Charleston County shared the need for safety improvements to their roads.
After voters overwhelmingly rejected the 2024 transportation sales tax last November with more than 61 percent of voters against it, County Council revived the discussion at their Sept. 11 finance committee meeting whether they should pursue a 2026 referendum by establishing a special committee dedicated to the tax.
The potential 2026 tax would raise $4.25 billion over 25 years .
