During a special session Monday evening, the Kanawha County Board of Education unanimously voted to approve a lease agreement of the former McKinley Middle School gymnasium, 3000 Kanawha Terrace, with the city of St. Albans.

St. Albans Mayor Scott James was not in attendance during the meeting, and city officials still have to approve the lease and could potentially request changes to be brought back to the board.

“Voting on it just allows for us to go forward with the lease,” Lindsey McIntosh, counsel for Kanawha County Schools, said. “If they don’t like it, they can just say, ‘We don’t like it, we want to make some changes and we would just come back to you.’”

The facility would be used for youth basketball and community recreation.
