Stepmother shook child, 4, to death after keeping him in room for days View Image

A 'cheeky' and 'bold' four-year-old was shaken to death by his step-mother after multiple assaults that left him with bruises.

The horrifying crimes were revealed at a murder trial at Dublin's Central Criminal Court, the accused was a woman in her 30s from the southwest of the country. Anne Rowland SC for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) said the step-mother kept the boy in his room days before his death.

The tot had to sit on the floor and could only leave for the bathroom or emergencies. Ms Rowland revealed the step-mother told the Gardaí (police force) she 'snapped' and remembered "shaking" him and screaming at him to "behave" before he fell on the floor.
