NEW YORK (PIX11) – Strong winds hit the tri-state area early Thursday, knocking over trees and causing power outages as gusts reached 30 mph.

A tree limb fell onto the road at West 95th Street and Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side on Wednesday, according to officials. The street was closed to traffic as crews worked to move the tree.

Garbage cans were also seen rolling on their sides after the wind knocked them over.

Branches lined streets across the tri-state area. A tree fell on a building on Bruce Street in Ridgefield, N.J., just before 1:30 a.m.

It crashed into a roof and an apartment window, according to authorities.

The wind is making it feel like the low-30s outside, even though the temperature is 48 degrees.
