Sixth-seeded Johnson edged past 11th-seeded Mendham, 3-1 in a penalty shootout, in the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 2 Tournament in Clark.
Neither team could find the back of the net through 100 minutes of play, sending the game to a penalty shootout.
Goalie Suzie Pires had three saves for Johnson (10-3-2), while Julia Mauriello stopped 12 shots in net for Mendham (9-8-2).
Isabella Matos, Sophia Brower, and Gabriella Wandling recorded the three successful penalties for Johnson.
Johnson will play third-seeded West Morris, No. 13 in the NJ.com Top 20, in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
