An illegal street trader caught selling Manchester United scarves outside Old Trafford Metrolink on matchdays has been fined.

Trafford Council said Andrew Lowe, 53, of Peel Hall Road, Wythenshawe , was found selling Manchester United scarves to supporters ahead of the game against Real Sociedad, a 4-1 win for United, back in March.

The council said he had been previously warned by Trafford Council’s Enforcement Team that he could not trade without a licence.

Manchester Magistrates Court heard that when approached, Mr Lowe tried to bundle the scarves for sale back into his holdall, before making his way from the area.

However, he was back again in May for the home team’s two-nil defeat by West Ham, selling scarves for £15, the council claim.
