Charles Richard “Dicky” Donnelly Jr. is a man most people reading this column have never heard of.
A 1977 graduate of Savannah’s Calvary Baptist Day School, Dicky was not the sort of individual who wanted to draw attention to himself. The activities listed in his senior index reflect that team-first mentality: ROTC, track team, varsity basketball, varsity baseball, Key Club. Dicky chose a military career, a life predicated upon service to others. He was not flashy. He did not boast or brag. His sense of self-worth was not constructed upon a foundation of fame, fortune of individual accolades, but rather upon the far more substantive foundation of duty, honor and service to his fellow Americans.
A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Dicky served his country as a Combat Engineering Officer
