GARRETT, Ind. (WPTA) - Garrett Police Chief Gerald Kline is set to resign, city officials announced Tuesday evening.

The announcement was made during Tuesday’s city council meeting by Mayor Todd Fiandt, who said the decision was made due to a loss of confidence after a years-long misconduct investigation into the department.

Chief Kline issued the following statement which was read during the meeting:

“It has been my distinct honor and privilege to serve the citizens of DeKalb County in law enforcement for more than 37 years. Of those, 34 are dedicated to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department. For the past three years, I’ve had the honor of serving as the Chief of Police for the City of Garrett. Effective November 9th, 2025, will be my last official day as Chief of Police. I remain gra
