LEO-CEDARVILLE, Ind. (WPTA) - Seven schools in 21Country will compete in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) state finals for marching band on Saturday.
Among the seven bands, one qualified for the competition for the first time in nearly 15 years.
That band comes from Leo Junior-Senior High School.
For many, the achievement serves as a comeback story.
Director Colby Stackhouse first took over the school’s band program four years ago.
He says the program looked very different from what it does today.
"When we got here, we were dead last at every competition. Everything we did, we were dead last, and it was just... they needed some believing," said Stackhouse.
Stackhouse says believing is exactly what he brought, but change didn’t happen overnight.
