FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - On Thursday, Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker announced more than a million dollars in support to twelve local organizations.
“Opioid addiction is a very powerful addiction, and it takes a long journey to be able to overcome.” (D) Mayor Sharon Tucker.
The opioid epidemic has torn through communities across the country and even though overdose hospitalizations in Allen County have gone down, city leaders say the opioid crisis still demands urgent action.
12 programs will split 1 million dollars to help their efforts in combatting addiction.
The funds come from national opioid settlement payments that Mayor Tucker says will continue through 2038.
