Together, they have combined for 87 yards passing, 18 rushing, 507 receiving, six touchdowns, 234 punt return yards, kickoff return yards, 59 tackles, four interceptions, a fumble caused, and one recovered.

We're talking just two guys here, Bloomington North's Luke Freel and South's Sam Giles, both seniors who have their main roles on defense and offense, but have not only helped out in all three phases of the game this season but have also made some rather big plays.

Specialization is usually the norm at the Class 5A level. At the same time, there are guys; it's just hard to do without, given their skill sets and smarts on the field. Injuries and learning curves also placed a premium on their talents in times of need.

“You gotta have guys who make plays," South coach Gabe Johnson said.
