SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) -- Local folk artist Panhandle Slim has a new exhibit opening Friday, Nov. 7 at Savannah State University.
Titled "The Struggle of Folk Through Art: Panhandle Slim at Savannah State University," it is a powerful art exhibition celebrating the humor, voices and resilience of the South through the artist's vibrant painted portraits.
Curated by Dr. Deborah Johnson-Simon, a museum anthropologist and the founder and CEO of Savannah's African Diaspora Museology Institute, the exhibition connects Panhandle Slim’s community-centered art with the legacy of Virginia and Calvin Kiah and the campaign to save the Kiah House Museum. It invites visitors to explore how art, both plainspoken and public, serves as civic action and collective memory.
