JACKSON — Authorities arrested a man Wednesday in Vicksburg and charged a second person in connection with the killing of James Dotson Jr., a sergeant with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office who was off duty at the time of his death.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Ladarien Tyrese Jones, was taken into custody in Vicksburg by the Jackson Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Task Force. He is charged with murder and auto theft.

A second person, 27-year-old Mercedes Guise, was arrested and charged with hindering prosecution and accessory after the fact. Both Jones and Guise were booked into city holding.

Sgt. Dotson, 32, was found dead Sunday night in his home on Dorgan Street in Jackson. Investigators believe he was shot multiple times, and his vehicle, a gray 2020 Dodge Challen
