The last time UNC basketball played Kansas in North Carolina, Michael Jordan was known as Mike Jordan.
Nearly 44 years ago, Jordan was introduced to the nation for the first time as a Tar Heel ahead of the 1981-82 season opener vs. Kansas at Charlotte Coliseum.
With a capacity crowd of 11,000 fans in attendance, No. 1 UNC opened the year with a 74-67 victory against the Jayhawks before putting a bow on the season with a 1982 national championship for coach Dean Smith’s first NCAA title.
