The Faribanks Police Department continues to endure several vacancies in its officer ranks. But Chief Ron Dupee told the City Council on Wednesday that there might be a silver lining on the horizon, as hires are expected to begin academy training in January.

FPD has about eight vacant officer positions, with a lieutenant expected to retire in spring 2026.

An officer is set to complete the academy this week before returning to FPD for administrative processing and field training.

That officer would complete his field training by May 1, 2026.

FPD expects three new officers to begin the Public Safety Training Academy in Sitka in January. That includes two that have been sent to Mayor Mindy O’Neall’s desk for review and approval.
