ATLANTA (WRBL) — Atlanta-based Delta Airlines says they are complying with a directive from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation to reduce flights at 40 major U.S. airports.
The FAA directive comes as a response to the government shutdown and the air traffic control staffing shortages. Air traffic controllers have been working unpaid since the shutdown began Oct. 1.
A spokesperson from Delta says the airline will work to minimize customer impact while keeping safety as their top priority.
Customers will be able to change, cancel or refund their flights, including basic economy tickets, without penalty during this time, the airline confirms. Delta encourages all fliers to continuously check their flight status online and on the Delta app.
