ATLANTA (WJBF) – Under the Gold Dome Thursday, Gov. Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp honored Georgia’s veterans during a ceremony at the State Capitol.
State lawmakers, members of the Georgia National Guard, and the Georgia Department of Veterans Service also attended the event.
Kemp said Veterans Day serves as a reminder of the debt we owe to those who’ve fought for the nation’s freedom.
Georgia is home to more than 700,000 veterans, and about 40% are over the age of 65.
Lawmakers and the governor emphasized the need to do more to help veterans transition back into civilian life — including expanding access to mental health resources and preventing PTSD.
