Look up the word "audacity" in the dictionary, and you'll probably see a picture of St. Louis Blues goalie Jordan Binnington stuffing a puck into his pants from Wednesday night's game against the Washington Capitals.
That wasn't any old puck he was attempting to store away for safekeeping. It was the puck used for Alex Ovechkin's 900th career goal, scored against Binnington just seconds earlier. The goal made Ovechkin the first player in NHL history to hit the 900-goal milestone. And for some reason, Binnington thought he should be the person to keep that puck.
Make it make sense.
OK, maybe he had to try. That puck would do numbers on the open market. But bruh, you didn't think any of the thousands of cameras in the arena including the ones broadcasting the game to screens across the world would peep what you did? Of course you weren't going to just glide away with that puck. I just hope the puck he returned to officials is the actual puck Ovi scored with. How do we know Binnington didn't have a spare in there?
Better question, why did Binnington think he of all people should have that puck. Prior to Wednesday, I didn't even know who he was. Looking at his stats, he's been a decent enough goalie in his career, but that hasn't translated to 2025... thus, the four goals he allowed Tuesday including the one to Ovechkin. You don't get to keep that puck as a consolation for sucking.
NFL earning 'No Fun League' nickname
Rico Dowdle stopped short of a third pump on his touchdown celebration Sunday. The NFL fined him anyway. His next check will be more than $14,000 smaller as a result.
In case you missed it, Dowdle was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after doing a couple hip thrusts in homage to the old Key & Peele sketch featuring a player named Hingle McCringleberry who was allowed two pumps before drawing a penalty. Of course, the real NFL rule doesn't put a number on pumps allowed -- it only states that "sexually suggestive or offensive" acts are prohibited -- so Dowdle was penalized.
OK, fine. Throw the flag. Maybe the refs weren't familiar with the sketch. But for the NFL to follow through with a fine is a travesty. By now, everyone knows this was just sketch, removing any chance of it being "sexually suggestive or offensive." To take money from Dowdle anyway is petty and why the NFL is known as the No Fun League.
On the bright side, at least he used the fine and attention to raise money for charity.
