Boston's Logan International Airport confirmed it is one of 40 U.S. airports that could see a 10% cut in flights by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) amid the ongoing government shutdown.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said at a Nov. 5 news conference that flight reductions are necessary to keep the nation's airspace safe and running smoothly.
He warned earlier in the week that the cuts could come as a result of pressure on the country's air traffic controllers as the shutdown rolls on.
"It's going to lead to more cancellations, but we are going to work with the airlines to do this in a systematic way," Duffy said.
The flight reductions are expected to take effect Friday, Nov. 7, a spokesperson for Massport said in a statement.
