ATLANTA — The South Fulton mayoral race is heading to a runoff after neither candidate reached 50% of the vote on Election Day.

Multiple eyes were on this race as incumbent Mayor Khalid Kamau ran for re-election despite being at the center of a controversy. His attorney represented him at a court hearing the day before Election Day after he pleaded not guilty to that case in September . He is expected to appear in court for a final plea on Nov. 18.

Carmalitha Gumbs, who serves on the city council, ran against Kamau along with seven other candidates, making it one of the most crowded races seen for Election Day in 2025.
