When it comes to the Jacksons, showbiz really does run in the family.
"Michael," a biopic of pop icon Michael Jackson starring the singer's real-life nephew, Jaafar Jackson, released its first teaser trailer on Thursday, Nov. 6. Jaafar, 29, is the son of Michael's older brother, Jermaine Jackson.
"I know you've been waiting a long time for this," Kendrick Sampson, who plays Jackson's go-to producer Quincy Jones, says in the trailer's intro. "The tracks are made. The songs are ready. Let's take it from the top."
The minute-long clip shows off Jaafar Jackson's uncanny portrayal of the pop superstar, as the actor recreates a series of iconic moments from his late uncle's illustrious career, including the "Thriller" music video.
Led by "Training Day" director Antoine Fuqua, "Michael" will chronicle Michael Jackson's transformation from precocious Jackson 5 singer to the slick, moon-walking King of Pop that defined pop culture in the 1980s.
The closing scene of the trailer pokes fun at the Grammy-winning singer's dancing prowess. While in a studio session with Jones, Jaafar Jackson — in a pitch-perfect imitation of his uncle's tenor tone — asks for the lights to be lowered, to which Jones quips, "OK, but remember: In here, keep those feet still, my man."
