Greater Sudbury taxpayers could pay an increase of more than five per cent on next year’s tax bill.
During the first of several finance meetings dedicated to the 2026-27 budget, Margaret Karpenko, the city’s new chief financial officer, told councillors the proposed budget carries a property tax increase of 5.7 per cent in 2026 and 5.9 per cent in 2027.
“This increase can be categorized into two areas, municipal levy change and service partners,” the budget document indicates. “The municipal levy change represents 2.7 and 3.7 per cent for 2026 and 2027 respectively, net of assessment growth.”
Municipal taxes account for about $402 million of the city’s $859 million operating budget.
