A tree went through a home on North Deodate Road in Conewago Township around 8:57 p.m., taking out the interior stairway and leaving a resident stranded on the second floor.
Londonderry Fire Company crews responded and cut out a metal railing and banister to allow the occupant to escape the home, uninjured. Crews also secured the utilities to the home. The fire department did not remove the tree, but focused on extricating the resident.
The fire company said their volunteers remained busy, handling trees downed on roads until around 11:30 p.m.
