MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa —
Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown is welcoming two new geese after the death of Blossom, one of the cemetery's beloved birds, who was hit by a car last week.
The cemetery says it has surveillance footage of a driver hitting Blossom. The footage shows the driver stopping after the collision, approaching the injured bird, and then leaving her by Lake Woodmere.
Her mate, Frankie, has been alone ever since.
Blossom gained national recognition during a search to find her a companion in 2023. CBS's Steve Hartman featured the story, and later, two picture books were published about the pair of geese.
The cemetery said both new geese will arrive soon because no one, feathered or human, should have to grieve alone.
