DENVER – Along with unseasonably warm temperatures across Colorado on Thursday afternoon, expect periods of strong wind gusts across the northeastern portion of the state.
Because of the winds and low relative humidity, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Boulder issued a red flag warning for areas west of I-25 where “rapid fire spread is possible.”
Areas under the red flag warning include portions of Larimer, Weld, Boulder, Jefferson and Broomfield Counties. Wind gusts could reach 55 mph in these areas, said the NWS.
The Denver metro area could see up to 40 mph wind gusts and the same goes for Colorado’s plains.
“It will be very windy today with gusts from 55 to 70 mph over the higher terrain with 35 to 50 mph over the plains. Elevated fire conditions will be in place from the I-2
