GRAND FORKS — UND freshman defenseman Sam Laurila has two assists in his last three games.
The Moorhead product played his two highest minute totals last weekend in a series against Minnesota Duluth. The Fighting Hawks took four of six National Collegiate Hockey Conference points.
Laurila, a fifth-round draft pick of the New York Islanders, spoke to the Herald this week about the start of his college career and shared some off-the-ice favorites.
Q. How much do you know about your father Tim's college hockey career at Michigan Tech?
A. Not a whole lot. I know he was flipping a lot of pucks off the glass and hitting guys. I think he was pretty meat-and-potatoes.
Q. Has he said much about Houghton, Michigan?
A. He obviously talks it up. He says it's a good spot. It's right on the lake.
