CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) -- Construction is about to begin on the next part of the Kickapoo Rail Trail, which will connect the existing trail in St. Joesph to Ogden.

The Champaign County Forest Preserve District said this is expected to begin sometime in November. This 3.6-mile stretch is part of the final planned sections of the 24.5-mile multi-use trail that will link Urbana to Kickapoo State Park in Vermilion County.

The initial work will include site preparation along the former rail bed. While construction starts, the Forest Preserve District will continue to work closely with Union Pacific Railroad to resolve the final crossing in St. Joseph.
