Oviedo’s girls volleyball team pulled out a two-point victory in game one of its best-of-five state semifinal and steamrolled Sunlake in the next two sets to advance to Saturday morning’s FHSAA’s Class 6A state final in Winter Haven.
The Lions (24-6) were troubled by unforced errors early but settled into their system and gained steam with a 10-0 run in game two of the 25-23, 25-15, 25-11 victory at Polk State College in Winter Haven.
“Sunlake is a really good team, but I think it came down to who’s going to grind it out the hardest,” Oviedo coach Jen Darty said afterward. “Our girls came in incredibly determined.”
