Pat McCabe knows that the golf tournament he oversees, The American Express PGA Tour event in La Quinta, might well benefit from the cancellation of The Sentry, the season-opening PGA Tour event in January. That doesn’t mean McCabe doesn’t have some sympathy for the canceled event.

“I just feel so bad for the team at Sentry and to Max (Novena, executive director) and his team,” said McCabe, executive director of The American Express PGA Tour event in La Quinta at his tournament’s charity distribution luncheon at La Quinta Country Club. “They are not able to have an event and give back. We talk about the natural disaster that was in L.A. here (the Pacific Palisades fires), and we remember the one a couple of years ago in the Lahaina Maui area.
