A man has been arrested, police say, after the urn containing the remains of an infant girl was taken from a cemetery.

According to police, the mother of the girl, who had passed away recently, went to Resurrection Cemetery at 254 Garner Rd. W. in Ancaster on Nov. 2 and found that her daughter's remains were gone.

Police said they reviewed CCTV footage from the cemetery and began an “extensive investigation.”

On Nov. 4, police arrested and charged a 37-year-old man in Niagara Falls, Ont. Police say the man had a “history of similar cemetery-theft offences.”

Officers were able to recover the urn and return it to the mother. They also found “several other items believed to have been taken from additional gravesites.”
