KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 50-year-old man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison in connection with a shootout that killed two women last year in Independence, prosecutors announced this week.
Namphonh Suady pleaded guilty in Jackson County Circuit Court last week to two counts of first-degree involuntary manslaughter and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm due to Suady being a convicted felon, court records show.
He was originally facing charges of second-degree murder.
The shooting happened about 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2024, at a home on North Lynne Street near East Elizabeth Street in Independence. Two women, 47-year-old Jessika Koehler and 44-year-old Janessa Russell, were killed, according the Independence Police Department, the investigating agency.
