GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A traffic stop in the 2500 block of Southwest 23rd Terrace in Gainesville led to the seizure of more than 1,700 deadly doses of fentanyl, according to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say they pulled over 66-year-old Derrick Washington on Wednesday for a traffic infraction.

Washington, the only person in the car, declined consent for deputies to search his silver Ford.

Deputies say they then had a K9 perform an open-air sniff of the car and the K9 gave a signal to deputies that narcotics were present, also giving them probable cause to search the vehicle.

After searching Washington’s car, deputies found 3.4 grams of a white substance, which later tested positive for fentanyl, a single bag of marijuana, and 12 small baggies of marijuana packaged f
