John Cleese has said that ‘they're almost all dead’ in a poignant tribute to one of his late Fawlty Towers co-stars.

The Monty Python comedy legend is best known in the UK for his work on the BBC sitcom, which he co-wrote with his first wife Connie Boot.

Playing the role of Basil Fawlty, the series , which aired for just two seasons in 1975 and 1979, followed the character trying to navigate the madness of running a dysfunctional hotel.

It was recently announced that John’s onscreen wife Prunella Scales , who played Sybil Fawlty on the programme, ‘died 'peacefully at home in London’ on Monday, October 28.

Her sons Samuel and Joseph said in a statement to the PA news agency: “Our darling mother Prunella Scales died peacefully at home in London yesterday. She was 93.
