Titus is CFD's fifth fire investigations dog since the program began in 1991
Meet Titus, the Calgary Fire Department (CFD)’s new K9 crew member, who can sniff out ignitable liquids within minutes.
Titus’ handler, Canine Investigator Brad Brookes, said the two-year-old American Field Labrador is an “invaluable member” of the crew.
“We’re excited and extremely proud to introduce Titus, our ignitable liquid detection canine,” Brookes said.
“As humans, we use about five to six million olfactory cells,” he said. “A canine like Titus has 300 million olfactory receptor cells.”
His strong sense of smell can help save crews hours of investigation time.
“Titus can detect an ignitable liquid in minutes, where current technology could take hours or even longer,” said Deputy Chief Pete Steenaerts
