OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - The current sheriff confirmed that former Marion County Sheriff Don Moreland has died.

Marion County Sheriff William ‘Billy’ Woods shared a video message on Facebook on Thursday, sharing the news, displaying photos of Moreland.

“To say that we have heavy hearts today would be an understatement of our feelings,” Woods said in the video. “Many of you, myself included, grew up knowing Sheriff Don Moreland as one of the greatest sheriffs ever to take office in Marion County. Regrettably, I must tell you that he has passed away. I want to extend my most sincere and deepest condolences to his family, to those here who worked with him, and to the citizens who knew and admired him as I always have.”
