Lisa Nandy has apologised to the Prime Minister after she was found to have breached the governance code on public appointments.

The Culture Secretary says she ‘unknowingly breached the code’ in choosing David Kogan as chairman of the Independent Football Regulator - and failing to declare Mr Kogan had previously donated to her Labour leadership campaign.

In a letter to Sir Keir Starmer, the Wigan MP said she 'deeply regrets' the error.

Ms Nandy told the PM said: “I am writing to you following the publication of the Commissioner for Public Appointments’ report into the appointment of the chair of the Independent Football Regulator (IFR) released today.
