PROSPECT PARK — Nearly a year after a brush fire scorched two acres of Prospect Park , workers and volunteers are restoring the damaged forest, according to a feature on CBS News. The November 2024 blaze, worsened by drought, left deep scars on trees and groundcover. Led by the Prospect Park Alliance, volunteers are planting young ferns and shrubs to stabilize the hillside and prevent erosion. “It’s like giving a life back to this part of the park,” said local volunteer Marco Bartalini.
Restoration will unfold in three phases, with full canopy replanting still ahead. “This precious woodlands, you know, we feared would be gone forever,” said Alliance president Morgan Monaco.
