SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
The holiday season is upon Northern California, and Old Sacramento on Thursday marked the start of this jovial time with the arrival of its Christmas tree.
The 60-foot tapered white fir arrived around 7 a.m., harvested from Hatchet Mountain in Shasta County and delivered by locally owned Carlton Christmas Trees. The tree was cut above the snow line for freshness and treated with a patented moisture-lock process to reduce needle drop.
Crews positioned the tree on K Street between Front and 2nd streets using a crane from Maxim Crane Works, then secured it in a below-ground stand prepared to hold the 12,000‑pound evergreen. A team from Stage Nine Exhibits, with support from Stage Nine Entertainment, will adorn the tree with nearly 24,000 lights, 550 icicles, 400 strobe
