MARION COUNTY, Mo. (WGEM) - Swine farms are a staple in the Midwest, which means it’s important to keep them disease free.
Swine production facilities in the Tri-States work with packing plants around the Midwest to provide quality meat to consumers in our area.
But entering the facilities and dealing with swine isn’t always simple. Various precautions must take place, as disease and sickness can be transported in ways you might not have even thought of.
“Any kind of trailer or any kind of farm equipment or boots can bring diseases, virus, and bacteria into the barn which is not good for pigs,” said Mag Lopez, swine livestock specialist for University of Missouri.
