The UK Government has acted "disrespectfully" in its handling of plans to house hundreds of asylum seekers in an Army barracks in Inverness, according to the leader of Highland Council .
The Home Office confirmed last week that Cameron Barracks would be used as part of new plans to temporarily house about 300 men. The plans will also see men housed at Crowborough Training Camp in East Sussex.
Around 900 asylum seekers will be housed in both locations altogether. It came as Labour ministers seek to move asylum seekers out of hotels and into what they deem "more suitable" accommodation .
