LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A man in his 80s is being reported as the first flu-related death in Clark County, according to a news release from the Southern Nevada Health District.
To date, the health district reports 17 influenza-associated hospitalizations in Clark County, and reports of respiratory and influenza-like illnesses remain minimal in the community.
Flu season typically peaks between December and February, but flu activity can continue through May. The CDC recommends that everyone aged 6 months and older be vaccinated annually. People most at risk for flu complications include those 65 and older, children under 2, pregnant people, and individuals with underlying medical conditions or weakened immune systems.
