The Federal Aviation Administration announced the extraordinary measure of reducing air traffic at two “high-volume” North Texas airports starting Friday morning.
The FAA said it was reducing traffic by 10% in 40 “high volume” areas on Friday to maintain safety, as air traffic controllers show signs of burnout during the current U.S. government shutdown. The cuts represent approximately 1,800 flights from about two dozen states, carrying about 270,000 passengers.
“This is about where’s the pressure and how do we alleviate the pressure,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said
The affected North Texas airports are the two largest commercial airports in the area.
