Rockstar Games has announced yet another delay for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, now set to release on Thursday, November 19, 2026. The developer expressed its apologies to fans in a tweet, stating, "We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve."
The announcement marks a significant shift from the game's initial release window, which was originally slated for autumn 2025. This was later pushed to May 26, 2026, before the latest postponement. Rockstar concluded its statement by thanking fans for their patience and support, adding, "While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern-day Vice City. Sincerely, Rockstar Games."
The news has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with many fans expressing their frustration. One user vented, "I just smashed my TV in front of 30 guests at my party because of these constant delays. My wife just took our crying kids and said they’re all spending the week at a hotel. This delay has ruined my life and my expectations. I can’t handle this anymore. Goodbye Rockstar. I am no longer a fan."
Another fan lamented, "Damn it! I became a father, and I might even become a grandfather, and your game still isn’t out yet!" However, not all responses were negative. Some fans showed understanding, with one stating, "I speak for everyone when we say take your good time. We want a finished game and game of the century, so you can take an additional ten years if you need to."
The development of GTA 6 was described as "well underway" at the beginning of 2022. Rumours earlier this year suggested that Rockstar might be scrapping downloadable content to meet a 2024 launch. Hopes were raised when an earnings report hinted at a potential release in fiscal year 2025, which ends on September 30, 2025. However, the latest delay has dashed those expectations.
It has been over a decade since the release of Grand Theft Auto V, which has sold more than 215 million copies and has been available across three console generations. The ongoing anticipation for GTA 6 continues to grow, despite the setbacks.
