You can throw the record books out the window when the Arkansas Hunters meet the Arkansas Whitetails on Saturday for the opening day of the modern gun deer season.
The two teams have met in organized, regulated competition since 1916 in what has become the state's biggest sporting event in terms of participation. A slew of exhibition matches have been added since, such as the urban archery deer season, the early bucks only archery Season, and the popular muzzleloader deer season, which in 2024 was changed to the alternative firearms deer season to reinvigorate fan interest. However, the modern gun deer season has always been the main event, drawing fan interest from around the country. It is a major tailgating event, with families gathering at camps all over the state to enjoy fellowship
