BISMARCK — The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction is seeking public scrutiny and comment on new, proposed rules for public charter schools.
State School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler said in a news release on Monday, Nov. 3, the rules are required under Senate Bill 2241, approved by North Dakota legislators in April.
They provide guidance to charter school advocates for developing the taxpayer-supported schools, which have more operational and administrative flexibility than traditional public schools, Baesler said in the release.
Among other proposed rules, public charter schools must negotiate agreements with the superintendent of public instruction and submit annual reports on academic results, budgets and operations.
Schools that do not comply may have state aid paymen
