PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria woman who allegedly set her apartment on fire due to anger from the government shutdown must stay in jail until her trial.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 45-year-old Vanessa Walker was ordered detained after a hearing on Thursday on a charge of Aggravated Arson.
Peoria Fire and Police responded to an apartment complex on NE Madison Monday afternoon, and spoke with Walker after firefighters put the fire out.
The fire was only in Walker’s apartment, but four other apartments were damaged and four residents displaced.
Walker allegedly admitted during questioning to starting the fire by lighting a piece of Styrofoam, which spread to her couch, stating she was upset over the government shutdown.
