An Edmonton city police officer accused of following a 25-year-old woman into her home and groping her while on duty is facing sexual assault charges.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) on Thursday announced it has charged Edmonton Police Service Const. Renzo Geronimo with sexual assault, unlawful confinement, being unlawfully in a dwelling house, and breach of trust.

ASIRT provided few details about the 2023 case, now the subject of a $1.5-million lawsuit filed in April. Geronimo, now 28, is not named in the lawsuit because neither the alleged victim, now 27, nor her lawyer knew the accused’s name before charges were laid.
