DAVENPORT, Iowa — Third Street in downtown Davenport has officially been converted to two-way traffic as of Wednesday morning, implementing a change that has been discussed for years.
The conversion represents a significant shift for drivers navigating the downtown area.
Kyle Carter, executive director of the Downtown Davenport Partnership, said there has been a learning curve as people adjust to the new traffic pattern.
Carter said police have been helpful with the transition.
“We had a few cars still parked the wrong way from the night before. It’s obvious people are still getting accustomed to it,” Carter said. “I’m sure hopefully within a few weeks, hopefully it’s old hat.”
Fourth Street will also be converted to two-way traffic, but not until next year.
