WEBB COUNTY, Tex. (KGNS) - Safe Haven has reopened after services were paused due to the ongoing government shutdown.

The program provides a safe environment for parents to share custody of their children, with constant supervision.

After consulting with the Webb County Attorney, Sergeant Conrad Hein announced that the location at Mall del Norte will reopen immediately.

In a statement, Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar said it is important that the program stays available during the shutdown for the safety of the children.

“I know that we’re going against what the government wanted; they wanted to inspect it, but I think it’s more important for the kids to be able to see their parents, and that’s what we did,” Cuellar said.
